A 3-Day Adventure: Exploring the Heart of Western Uganda
My recent trip to Western Uganda was a thrilling adventure packed into just three days. The journey began in Kampala through heavy rains, a sight not seen in two months. About 10 miles out of the capital, we were greeted by a dry, cloudy ambience, a stark reminder of Uganda's unpredictable and unique weather. The journey took us through Mitiyana, Mubende, Kyegegwa, and Kyenjojo, offering a raw glimpse into the heart of the country.
Fort Portal provided a warm welcome, a calm city with well-built roads. Our first stop included visiting the “Amabeere gaNyina Mwiru” caves and hiking atop the craters. As evening approached, we enjoyed a delicious dinner featuring local cuisine and watched a game between Spain and Germany at Fort Portal Gardens, immersing ourselves in the town's charming atmosphere.
As night fell, we ventured to “The Afrikaans Club” where we indulged in free-flowing beer and watched another Euro game between Portugal and France. Here what happens in the Afrikaans stays in Afrikaans.
The next day, the real excitement began with a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park in the western Rift Valley. Observing lions, hyenas, and many other wildlife up close was an unforgettable experience. The park's beauty and the animals' magnificence truly left us spellbound. A boat cruise along the Kazinga channel brought us up close to hippos, elephants, and a variety of bird species, both native and foreign.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we arrived at Acacia Hotel Mbarara, a perfect spot to relax and unwind. Mbarara's nightlife also offered its charm, with popular options like Shooters and Vybz Club providing a taste of local entertainment and hospitality.
This Western Uganda safari was a truly immersive experience. It showcased not only the breathtaking wildlife but also the rich culture of Uganda. If you're seeking an exciting and unforgettable holiday, add this adventure to your itinerary.
